Following our recent and very productive meeting with local MP Bill Esterson, he has now tabled questions to all government departments about what they are doing to help BSL users. You can see the full list on the Parliament website but here is the one to the Department of Health.
To ask the Secretary of State for Health what steps his Department takes to provide:
a) information on its services in British Sign Language (BSL)
b) correspondence in BSL to people whose principal language is BSL
Bill has also asked what steps he has taken to encourage GPs and other practitioners to provide:
a) prescriptions,
b) details of medical appointments
c) other essential personal medical documents
in BSL to people whose principal language is BSL.
We would like to thank Bill and are keeping in touch with his office who are awaiting answers. Further updates will posted when we receive them from him.
